This week, we will read Chapter 2 each day and answer the specific questions for that day.
Day 1:
▲ Make a general summary statement/paraphrase of what you think this chapter is about.
Day 2:
↑ What does this teach me about God?
Day 3:
↓ What does this teach me about humanity?
Day 4:
† What does this teach me about Christ (or how does this point me to Christ?
Day 5:
✓How can I apply this to my life?
Questions to consider for application:
How does the principle "faith without works is dead" apply to your personal life?
What are some examples from your own life where you've seen the principle "mercy triumphs over judgment" in action?
Day 6/7:
Use the extra day to check cross-references, look up any word definitions you may want to understand better and check study notes and commentaries to see how your interpretation compares to what others have said.
→ Challenge:
Continue memorizing James 1:22-25
Accountability Questions to Consider:
Have I been honorable, responsible, and generous with my finances and my time?
Have I been honoring, understanding, and generous in important relationships this week?
Options to Go Deeper:
The Debate Over James 2 (this is a little longer, but worth watching to understand this debated portion of scripture. Chances are, we will be confronted with it, if not for ourselves, then when interacting with others at some point.)
Christianity Is Not a Popularity Contest (A short article on favoritism)
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Oh, how subtle and awful sin is! We are all guilty of breaking the whole law, for none of us is capable of keeping it all. “For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon [our] iniquity; for it is great!” (Ps. 25:11). Thank you for your forgiveness, and help us to never make light of our sin. Help us to remember that we, and the ones who sin against us, are not too sinful to be saved. Please help us live in light of this, and may it motivate us to pray earnestly for the salvation of both our loved ones and our enemies. Guide us in how to live out your Word in all areas of life. May we do this in true love for you and others.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Blessings 🤍
